First time meeting a horse? Not sure how to act or what to look for? Find your perfect match here at Cavalia Stables and let us guide you on how to meet horses.
Horses are incredible animals, but they must be handled with care. To get the most out of your riding experience with a new horse, you should follow some simple steps to start on the right foot!
It is important to meet horses with the right attitude, always speak in a soft voice to let them know your presence.
Make sure you are calm and confident around the horse.
Keep your hands low, palms open, and don't touch the horse without asking first.
Spend time with the horse before doing anything else - petting them, brushing their mane or coat, feeding them treats.
Ask for permission before touching an animal that is tied up or in a stall - just because they can't move away from you doesn't mean they want to be touched!
And remember…. Be kind to all of God's creatures - horses are just as deserving of respect as any other living being on this planet.
In Cavalia Stables, we understand that horses are intelligent creatures with specific needs and desires. It is important to establish a safe relationship by understanding their body language before you start interacting with them. We can help teach you how to identify, understand and manage simple gestures like pinned ears - straight back, flared nostrils, eyes wide opened, and tail clamped between the legs in order to build a trusting relationship from the first meeting. Lessons can be purchased individually or as a package.
You must complete a Rider Application, Authorization Form, and Medical Form (provided at Cavalia Stables) to ride or interact with horses at our facility.
Proper clothing is required for riding. Wearing the proper attire and equipment affects how effectively and safely you ride. What to wear for a riding lesson in English:
An ASTM / SEI certified/compliant helmet.
Fitted shirt. (Think breathable)
Long pants or pants like jeans or jodhpurs.
Boots or closed shoes.
Plan to arrive 20 minutes before your scheduled class.
Be strong and courageous; do not be frightened or dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go. - Joshua 1:9
